Project Overview

Recreated in Solidworks without taking a single measurement, purely based on a playful take of proportions, is a collection of renders featuring my places of work, study, and entertainment. This project was 50% enjoyment and 50% a challenge to bring Solidworks into the inaccurate and imaginary space. It doesn't have to be about engineering and accuracy all the time!

Here's the model in wireframe view.

This is the model in alpha isometric view after it had been imported into Keyshot as a STEP file.

I started with the PC tower. I made sure the textures used matched the actual parts, including the color details on the Noctua fans and Galahad AIO liquid cooler.

Every item was made with maximum accuracy, from the Noctua fans and Galahad AIO liquid cooler to the LianLi Mesh II case with its acrylic swing panels.

My table is a cheap composite IKEA desk on four 5in risers, so all accessories were clamped on.

I use a Blue Snowball microphone, which had to be bent to stay out of the camera.

To keep the theme of proportions over measurements, I created a make-believe 65% keyboard, which is a Royal Kludge mechanical keyboard in reality. On the Razer full-width mouse pad rests my work MacBook and iPhone 11 Pro.

The monitor to the left is a color-accurate 4K 60hz used mainly to project my work from the MacBook.

The one to the left is a 1080 HD 144hz gaming monitor. I had just finished Elden Ring at the time I rendered this, so that was my texture of choice.

I keep a corkboard next to my desk where I pin sticky notes I rarely remember to look at (haha). There's a photo strip of me and my wife, as well as an illustration of hers.

Looking back, I'm pretty proud of myself for modeling a DXRacer gaming chair with minimal references and no measurements. This project was a lot of work but serves as a time stop as well, since my current workstation has changed drastically. Maybe it's time to renew this project!
